C.H. Spurgeon said, “The proper study of the Christian is God.” That study improves the mind, humbles the mind, expands the mind and consoles the mind. The following are beginning resources for the study of God. Knowing God by J.I. Packer - A modern day classic that clearly lays out who God is. This book is well worth the effort needed to study it. Study Guide available. The Names of God - “The name of the Lord is like a strong tower, the righteous shall run unto it and be glad.” God has revealed himself through his names and yet many times we remain ignorant of them. How can we run to his names if we don’t know them? This devotional book provides a short chapter on each name of God. Lighter reading than Knowing God. The Names of Christ by T.C. Horton - (see #12) The Names of the Holy Spirit by Ray Pritchard - (see #12) The Names of Believers by John Koessler - As believers we also can learn truths about ourselves by understanding our Scriptural names. In the same series as #12, #13 and #14. Know What You Believe by Paul Little - This short book provides a readable, practical introduction to theology so that you can know what you believe. Concise Theology by J.I. Packer - Like the title says, this small book is handfuls of theology stated as concisely as possible. Each chapter is a mere two or three pages long. If theology has scared you away, you can handle this book. Back |
